The Dragonfly Initiative is proud to recognise the achievement of the Goldlake Group’s Honduran gold mine, Eurocantera, to become the world’s first mine to be awarded Chain of Custody (CoC) certification by the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC). Goldlake Group has been a client of The Dragonfly Initiative since 2010.
The certification acknowledges years of the company operating a ground-breaking secure, and conflict-free vertical supply chain from extraction through to the end consumer. With the support of The Dragonfly Initiative Eurocantera has achieved complete assurance of its chain of custody – ensuring that customers receive gold guaranteed for its social and environmental responsibility. The successful verification assessment was conducted by UL Responsible Souring, an international auditing company accredited to certify the RJC standard.
Certification to CoC is the latest achievement in a highly successful partnership between Eco-Age and Goldlake Group, that builds on previous work including Eurocantera being awarded the RJC Code of Practice certification.
In a press release from The Respnsible Jewellery Council, Andy Bone, RJC’s Executive Director, was quoted as saying:
“RJC is delighted to congratulate Eurocantera on achieving the 1st CoC Certification granted by RJC to a gold producer. CoC Certification provides a mechanism to demonstrate that our members are implementing the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains in an effort to counter conflict associated with gold smuggling. This CoC certification is novel as it provides the lode stone for a full and first every fully validated chain of custody from mine to market”
Giuseppe Colaiacovo, CEO of the Goldlake Group said: “This is another milestone for us. Eurocantera is the first mining operation to have been granted the RJC highly regarded Chain of Custody-certification. Our company is built on innovation and it is wholly fitting that we have taken a path that others have yet to discover. It validates too our commitment to ensuring that our activities and our products are not associated with illicit activity or supporting armed conflict. It is our ambition that all elements of our business improve the lives of the people touched by its activities and the dual RJC Code of Practices and Chain of Custody certifications affirm this core corporate value. We are proud to set an example in our sector and hope others will follow.”
